A "WHOLE new way of living" is the promise for people staying at Sunraysia Residential Services' new Deakin Resort.

The new two-storey home, which can accommodate up to five people in its varied spaces, will be available for respite, short-term and long-term stays for people with disabilities and the elderly.

SRS chief executive officer Marian Luehman said the home has a "holiday environment" and would accommodate not just locals, but people travelling to the region on holiday.

The home was opened to the public on Saturday and Ms Luehman said she was delighted for everyone to see the finished product.

"It's one of its own kind in Mildura," she said.

"It's taken a lot of hours and a lot of work, but at the end of the day, we're so proud of what we have achieved."

Ms Luehman said SRS and Garraway Homes had worked together to ensure it was built to a high standard as everybody deserved to live in a nice home.

"Any person deserves to live in something no different from what you and I would live in, no matter what their circumstance is," she said.

"I've always been really, really committed to putting back into the Mildura community every single dollar that we possibly can and build homes for people who have a disability or who are ageing and living in a property that they deserve to live in."

Ms Luehman said there had already been a number of bookings coming through for the Deakin Resort, which could be used by different groups upstairs and downstairs.

"We've got some bookings of people who of course want to come in and be some of the first people in the door, so they're excited and the families are quite excited to come and test it out, too," she said.

"We're also really looking forward to inviting back some of the people who in the past were using our services, but we have just become far too busy.

"So this gives them an opportunity now to come to the new facility, with new staff, new manager and just experience a whole new way of living."

She revealed that SRS would also soon begin developing the block of land behind the home for a pool, playground and additional parking spaces.

She said these would be shared between residents, employees and guests at the first home and the subsequent builds, which will be located in the SRS-owned neighbouring blocks.
